Face Paint, and Images that Lie

If you watch this video carefully, you'll understand some of the reasons why women struggle so with self-image, and body image. This video is about lying with images.

Keep in mind that this is a promo film for Dove's Campaign for Real Beauty, which, in and of itself, is not a bad thing, and it is in part about increasing the self-esteem of young women.

But keep in mind too, that the ideal of female beauty has changed through time, as this video from Phillip Scott Johnson shows.

We are, all of us, beautiful.

Played at high speed it looks like this poor woman is being attacked by the stylists - which in a way she is.

That's an interesting poing

She does look like she's being attacke, especially at high speed. And at the start, she looks almost frightened.

It's interesting too, I think, to compare the idea of beauty today, which is, per the video, artifically created, to that of the art works from the past.
