'American Idol' has the judges in place

Oh American Idol, I'm trying so hard to still like you, but it's becoming more and more difficult. After months of speculation and wild theories, we now know that Idol will have four judges this year, and only one of them is a veteran. Who got the other spots?

We already knew that Mariah Carey was on board as a new American Idol judge this year, and we recently found out that Randy Jackson was also staying (there was some talk he might move to a mentor spot). Now, AI has chosen two additional judges, and I'm sitting here wondering if this little experiment is going to work.Without any further adieu, the new American Idol judges are: Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. So, what do you think? Are you overwhelmed with joy, or totally under whelmed by the decision? I'd have to say I'm in the latter category at the moment.

I was totally on board with bringing Mariah Carey in as an Idol judge. She's an industry veteran and heck, half of the AI contestants pick her songs to sing during auditions anyway. Who better to judge their performance? I'm also really glad that Randy Jackson is returning. I miss Simon Cowell terribly, but Randy offered some great critiques last season.

Now, let's discuss the two newest judges, shall we? I like Keith Urban, and I think that American Idol needed a country music-oriented judge. It's quite obvious that country is an extremely popular genre on Idol, so he'll certainly be able to add a different perspective with his critiques. But Nicki Minaj?! Really?! Sure, her music is fun and popular, but will Nicki really be able to bring something of value to the table? The other three judges have proven their talents for years -- Nicki has always struck me as a flash in the pan.

I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't think this is going to work out very well for American Idol. Disagree? Let's hear it in the comments!
