Capitalism: A Love Story

I’m a huge Michael Moore fan, and I’m not ashamed of it. I know my family thinks he’s nuts (and that I am, too) and that he, himself, is now a rich guy, and that many people have a problem with him. I don’t really care about any of that. Being rich alone isn’t a crime; there are plenty of rich people I admire (though, admittedly, many, many more whom I don’t). He’s a filmmaker whose job is to entertain; he simply uses his platform to deliver messages that are often considered controversial—though they shouldn’t be. After all, stories about our fellow Americans and their lives should be something we care about, not something that’s “controversial.”

Al Gore Victim of Attempted Frame?!

When I first heard of the charges against Al Gore I found them hard to believe. Now the DA and the police have cleared Mr. Gore of the charges. Multnomah County District Attorney Michael Schrunk said today, Friday, there was no basis for prosecution.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Don Rees, in a memo to the D.A., Michael D. Schrunk released by the DA office and the Portland Police report have cleared Al Gore of criminal wrongdoing in the sex assault case filed by masseuse Molly Hagerty..

The DA official statement said Hagerty story did not add up, and that she failed a polygraph test, that no DNA evidence on the pants she claimed she wore during the alleged incident, and the DA suggested that the accuser may have made up the charges against Mr. Gore for money, noting that she was paid for her story by the National Inquirer.

Chelsea Clinton's Getting Married

America and the world know that Chelsea Victoria Clinton is getting married tomorrow and it is a big deal. It is the wedding of the year, the wedding of many years, some say it is the American wedding of the century. Well, yes, it is a young century. It is the wedding that nearly everyone is talking about. Chelsea Clinton is going down the aisle in the style befitting the daughter of a popular former U.S. President. She is the product of two famous and popular parents. Her mom is the current Secretary of State.

Her parents and America are seeing her off into the world of married life, as if she is an American princess. Well, she is America's Chelsea. Born February 27, 1980, she was still twelve when her father, the 42nd U.S. President, came to the White House in January, 1993. She was a little girl. She is now all grown up and has by all accounts grown into a fine young woman.

No Naughty Words, Please!

Goldman Bans Bad Words.

In today's Wall Street Journal the world is being told that the firm Goldman Sachs has banned "naughty words." Employees are told to stop using curse words in their emails. Well? the bosses are looking ahead, concerned about -- what if, the company's emails are subpoenaed again by a Congressional committee! How would it look to America, if a firm of hard working honest fellas and gals, dedicated to looking after the pension funds of old people, and the funds of widows and orphans, employees are using blue language? Not that the bosses don't trust their workers, but a software program is to be installed that will prevent any "bad words" from appearing in the emails.

Raped at 21 by Polanski?!

Roman Polanski Serial Rapist?! A beast?!

Freed by the Swiss, where justice goes not to the just, but can be brought by the rich, Roman Polanski struts among his cinema and art friends, to them child rape doesn't seem to matter. Now a new tale: In 1974, Edith Vogelhut, then a twenty one year old, says Polanski drugged her (gave her MDMA, Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as Ecstasy), manhandled her, handcuffed her and then raped her, sodomized her repeatedly. (anal sex). This happened in the same house, where three years later, he drugged and raped a 13 year old girl.

Here We Go Again

Another kid, this one a little girl of fourteen, Laura Dekker, wants to sail around the world alone. She wanted to try at 13. Her goal is to be the youngest person to perform the stunt, and her parents say, yes. This kid is from Holland, and the Dutch courts blocked her for a year from attempting this reckless stunt, but yesterday, against the advice of the child protective agency, the court lifted its restrictions.

A Green Stunt

Boat Made from Recycled Plastic Bottles

Today, Monday, aye, okay! The sailboat, the Plastiki, a 60-foot (18-meter) ocean-going craft, made largely from 12,500 recycled plastic bottles, managed to make its way to harbor in Sydney, after four difficult months of weathering ocean storms, during an 8,000 nautical miles journey from San Francisco, crossing the Pacific Ocean, stopping along the way at island nations, on a trip, a stunt, meant to raise awareness of plastic waste. How making a boat and sailing it for four months is the best way to do that? I don't know.

The boat was hard to steer, and according to an Associated Press report, the crew "struggled to maneuver into port, outside the Australian National Maritime Museum." A crowd as big as about a hundred people were on hand to welcome the boat arrive.

Yes, I like sci-fi.

The San Diego Comic Con is underway. For those who do not know what the San Diego Comic Con is, its is an annual pop cultural event, a conference, convention, festival, fan performance art celebration. It is for fans who love comics, sci- fi movies and Tv shows, who love gadgets, gismos, and cool computer games. It is for the geek in us to speak -- speak? To scream with joy!

More than 120,000 strong are gathered. As usual, G4 (TV cable channel) will be covering Comic-Con extensively.

Featured on opening day at Comic Con was no other than he who is the rock star, he who is a legend, an American icon, he who is the godfather of the comic world, the creator of so many Marvel comics' fictional super heroes, he who is a real life hero, he who is a big draw at the 41st annual Comic-Con in San Diego -- Stan Lee. Justin Bieber Is Buzzing Hot

Justin Bieber is still hot and getting hotter. Hotter than Lady Gaga, who is very hot? You Tube reports that "Baby" tops "Bad Romance," that the Justin Bieber has beat out Lady Gaga.

Mr Bieber music video, "Baby," with more than 246 million views, is the most-watched video ever on YouTube. It has scooted passed Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," is more that than 600,000 views. ahead.

According to the Associated Press, Justin Bieber tweeted a thank you to "Beliebers" and said the video's success was "crazy." The singer wrote: "I started on youtube so ... WOW!"

My Wish List for Vampires Suck

As much as I normally hate parody movies—they’re just usually not done very well, are they?—I am absolutely, irrevocably, utterly, and any other word Bella Swan might use describing Edward excited about this summer’s parody, Vampires Suck. It’s—you guessed it—a parody of the Twilight series, with a few other films thrown in, of course. You can view the trailer here.

I really wish I’d been consulted for this parody! We make parodying Twilight our business around this house; in fact, I might say that it’s one of our top five favorite forms of entertainment. So I’m hoping that they might use some of our favorite poking-fun-at-Bella-and-the-Cullens devices in the movie, such as…

Hugh Hefner

I saw the video below and I had to post a comment. Hugh Hefner, is in the news, rather his company Playboy is -- because there are some hawks who want to snatch the Bunny away, and he, a fighting octogenarian, said no way, let's fight.

I don't know the merits of the issues, as to which side in the fight offers the shareholders the best deal. I just want to comment on Hefner the man, an American icon and pioneer.

Mel Gibson. -- Doesn't Sound Good

Today a new Mel Gibson audio tape was posted by RadarOnline.  This second audio tape is eight minutes of rage from Mel Gibson. His ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, recorded his rant to get back at him. On the tape Mel Gibson is behaving very badly, and admits to an earlier incident of domestic violence.

The best that can be said for Mr Gibson is that on the tape, he comes across as an angry lonely man, who complains of seeking love and not finding it, and of being used by women, and of alienation, and having no friends.

An Outrageously Wrong Act

Swiss rejects US extradition request.
Polanski Gets Away With Child Rape.

I am not surprised by the despicable Swiss action to release the child rapist Roman Polanski, to refuse to send him to the U.S for the sake of justice. The Swiss decision is not only a poke in the eye of the United States, it is a moral failure on the part of the Swiss government. That government has failed to do its part to protect the world's children from child predators.

Mr Polanski has money and friends in the well heeled and in the cultural circles of Europe, who spun a fable of Mr. Polanski's persecution by zealot American prosecutors. Mr. Polanski who has the morals of a mosquito, bites wherever he lands. In 1977 he landed on a 13 year old child. He raped her, after getting her drunk, and feeding her illegal drugs.

Mel Gibson rant frenzy

In this mornings news, William Morris, the talent agency, drops Mel Gibson. In the morning speculation: Is this the end of Mel Gibson's career?

There are charges and counter charges. "Domestic violence! "-- scream the headlines and his ex-girlfriend. "EXTORTION," counter screams Mr. Gibson's lawyers. And to show the world just what kind of man Mel Gibson's ex-girlfriend thinks he is -- on the Internet, she or her side posted the infamous phone message he had with her, during which he calls his baby's mother a few unflattering things and uses the dreaded "n" word. Mel -- Oh, bad boy, Mel.

It's Official: A NASA Physicist Confirms the World Cup Soccer Ball Sucks

The World Cup has been a wild ride- partly because of the referees, partly because of the nature of the game itself, and also because the Jabulani, which is the Official Soccer Ball of the 2010 World Cup has a tendency to veer off in strange directions- or so claim a number of goal keepers and now a NASA physicist. Lindsay Lohan: Sad Day In Court

It is never a happy day when anyone is sentenced to the slammer, unless they are a dangerous felon. It is a sad day when some one is slammer bound because of a drug addiction. It is a very sad day when some one young, who has shown such promise, so young, is being sent down to the slammer. Yesterday, Tuesday, July 6th, a LA Superior Court judge at the Beverly Hills courthouse, sentenced actor Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in the slammer for violating probation in a 2007 drug case, by failing to attend court-ordered alcohol education classes.

Ms Lohan burst into tears. What choice did the judge have? Little. But 90 days in jail, followed by a 90-day period of probation in rehab? What is the good purpose of sending non-violent, drug addicted people to jail? To get their attention? But 90 days seems excessive?

90 days of rehab? Yup. But rehab on works when the person doing rehab wants it to work.
