Admits he partied it up with Vanna before tapings
In what has got to be one of the strangest tabloid stories in recent memory, longtime Wheel of Fortune game show host Pat Sajak has admitted that he's hosted the show drunk. More than once, though not recently.
Told ya. Bizarre, right? I mean I'd expect this sort of hosting-while-trashed stuff from almost anyone else...but not Pat Sajak. Looking back, though, maybe it makes sense.Ever hear Pat Sajak stumble over his words on Wheel of Fortune? Well, he probably was drunk. Okay, not really, I'm sure he didn't host the show night after night in a blitzed-out haze. In an interview on ESPN2, Sajak does come clean about his wilder days. He says the show was "different" back then, and he was younger - and probably a lot more able to handle his alcohol. This was wayyyyyyyyyyy back in the days when people had to bid on silly prizes. Remember the spotted dalmatian dog statue? Yeah, back then. I'd drink too.
So, were Pat Sajak and Vanna White doing shots backstage at Wheel of Fortune, or what? No. According to Sajak, they'd hit up a Mexican restaurant across the street from the NBC studios for (multiple) margaritas. He says then they'd "come and do the last shows and have trouble recognizing the alphabet." Heh. Vanna had it worse. Pat could just stand there and say the phrase. Vanna actually had to teeter on those heels, in those glitzy dresses, and turn letters while trashed.
